Facts about me:

I like nostalgia.  And I think that sentimentality (in certain doses) gets a bad rap.  I suppose that this is a longer conversation for another day, but that’s my opening salvo in defense of the sentimental.

I was born in Ohio though I remember very little about it.  I do remember fireflies (though we called them lightning bugs), something I desperately wish that we had in Wyoming.

I Also lived in New York for five years and miss it dearly.

I love music.  If I go a day without listening to music, I become agitated.  I listen to (almost) every genre of music with a special affinity for anyone who puts their lyrics above all else.  Some bands that I love: The Mountain Goats, Concrete Blonde, Death Cab For Cutie, Counting Crows, R.E.M., Chvrches, The New Pornographers…  I could be here all day…  My favorite song of all time is Troy by Sinead O’Connor and I wrote about it for Memoir Mixtapes.

I have three rescue cats, one of whom loves napping with me and wishes that I did it more often.

My favorite novels are Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson and The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.  My favorite poet is Larry Levis (and I have a tattoo of one of his lines).

I came to literature initially through comic books when I was a young so I have a tendency to be a big champion of genre writing.  I may never have found my love of poetry if I weren’t drawn to the bookstores by Larry Hama, Chris Claremont, and Neil Gaiman.  (I would freaking love to do some Comics-styled poetry/art mashup someday so if you are out there reading this and are an artist and think that sounds fun then you should probably just contact me.)

I love nothing more than the feel of a soft comfy hoodie that is one or two sizes too big.
